SPARK-ENT FEB 18, 2013 – PROTOJE Hits iTunes and Billboard charts

KINGSTON, JAMAICA – Numbers are said never to lie and the truth they tell about The 8 Year Affair is one of marked improvement for Protoje. While pundits near and far have been heaping praises upon the artist’s sophomore effort, it took actual figures to validate the mass response. In less than a week, the album has scored big on various charts, including iTunes and Billboard.

On the iTunes Reggae Charts, Protoje quickly shot to #2 in Germany, behind a noted German band, Seeed. The Saint Elizabeth native also climbed steadily to #3 in the USA, ahead of Jimmy Cliff’s Grammy winner, Rebirth. He was outdone only by Bob Marley’s Legend (Deluxe Edition) and Legend (Remastered). Other countries where The 8 Year Affair has charted strongly in the top ten so far are France, United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland and Spain.

Protoje also got the nod from Billboard’s ‘Next Big Sound’ chart at #4. According to the official website, the chart measures “the fastest accelerating artists during the past week, across all major social music sites, statistically predicted to achieve future success…”

The 8 Year Affair was released on February 12 with a launch at Tuff Gong International in Kingston. Yet, instead of performing the tracks live, Protoje opted to play the album from start to finish through two towers of speakers in a setting reminiscent of vintage dancehall.

“I wanted people to hear the full potential of this album sonically,” said the artist. “However, I am very excited about next Saturday.” He was referring to his show to be held on Saturday, February 23 at the Edna Manley College, Protoje and the InDiggNation Live from the Capital. There he will be showcasing songs from the album, accompanied by Tessanne Chin, Chris Watts & Toi who are also featured onThe 8 Year Affair. Limited tickets are available for $1000 each at the Bob Marley Museum, Bookophilia and Base Kingston.
